Madala Village holds a special place in our hearts—it’s where our journey began nearly 20 years ago. We’ll return to this beloved community to spend two days at the small nursery school we started in 2016, bringing joy through fun, hands-on activities with the students.

Service Work at Nursery School

We’ll spend time in a rural village where we’ve been serving lunches for the past five years, working side by side with the community to improve classrooms and create fun, camp-style activities for the students. It’s service, connection, and joy all in one meaningful experience.

Service Work at Mperamumbi
K-7 School

Before diving into our week of service, we’ll set sail from Dar es Salaam for a tropical island escape! Enjoy a full day of snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, swimming, and soaking up the beauty of the Indian Ocean.

A day on the Indian Ocean

After days of meaningful service and cultural connection, we’ll end our journey with an unforgettable safari adventure—tracking the legendary Big Five across Tanzania’s breathtaking landscapes and soaking in the wild beauty of Africa.

Safari to the famous Serengeti

From cooking traditional Tanzanian meals to crafting homemade soccer balls, exploring local markets, and dancing to the rhythm of the drums, every day will bring new adventures and authentic cultural experiences to connect us with the heart of Tanzania.

Cultural Experiences

frequently asked questions

Is it Safe?

Yes. Our team has been living in or traveling to Tanzania for over 20 years, and safety is always our top priority. We carefully select trusted local partners, drivers, and accommodations that meet our high standards for security and comfort. Our group travels together at all times, and we maintain strong local connections that help ensure a smooth and safe experience. While any international travel requires awareness, you can feel confident that we take every precaution to make your trip both safe and memorable.

Transportation

All transportation is private and arranged by our team. During your stay, we’ll travel in comfortable vehicles with a professional, experienced local driver. While on safari, we’ll use Land Rovers equipped with pop-up tops for the best wildlife viewing. One in-country flight is included, operated by a reputable and well-established Tanzanian airline.

The food in Tanzania is wonderful! We’ll enjoy a mix of local and international restaurants, offering plenty of fresh fruit, chicken, beef, rice, beans, and chapati, along with opportunities to try delicious traditional Tanzanian dishes. While on safari, you’ll be treated to fresh, high-quality meals prepared by talented chefs. We also recommend bringing a few favorite snacks from home for travel days—especially since we know how much Americans love their snacks!

HEalth & Vaccinations

We recommend checking with your healthcare provider or a travel clinic for the most up-to-date vaccination and health advice for Tanzania. Common recommendations include routine vaccines, along with hepatitis A, typhoid, and malaria prevention. We take great care in choosing safe accommodations and food options, and clean bottled water is always available. Staying hydrated, using sunscreen and insect repellent, and washing hands regularly go a long way in keeping everyone healthy during the trip.

A valid passport is required for travel to Tanzania and must be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. U.S. citizens also need a tourist visa, which can be obtained online before travel or upon arrival in Tanzania. The visa fee is typically between $100–$200. We’ll provide detailed instructions and support to make the process simple. It’s also a good idea to carry a copy of your passport and travel insurance during the trip.
